Ameesha Patel (born Amisha Amit Patel on 9 June 1975 in Mumbai) is an Indian actress, producer, and model primarily known for her work in Hindi cinema, with a few Telugu and Tamil films to her credit .

A trained Bharatnatyam dancer since age five, she studied at Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai before pursuing bio-genetic engineering—and later economics—at Tufts University in the U.S. . After working briefly as an economic analyst and declining an offer from Morgan Stanley, she returned to India to join Satyadev Dubey’s theater group .

Her on‑screen debut came in 2000 opposite Hrithik Roshan in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, earning her both critical acclaim and the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut . This was followed by the massive hit Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001), where she won a Filmfare Special Performance Award . Despite these early successes, her career saw a dip between 2002 and 2010, with over 20 box‑office flops . She remained in the spotlight with supporting roles in well‑known films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) and Race 2 (2013) .
